Restaurant Sauterelle Review

Part of the gastro-complex centred on The Royal Exchange, Restaurant Sauterelle occupies the mezzanine floor overlooking the bustling courtyard and The Grand Café & Bar. It offers peace, quiet and tranquillity away from the hubbub below. Etched panels throughout the dining room evoke a grasshopper ('sauterelle') in flight and the interior is a textbook 'Conran' mix of soft-textured fabrics in ocean blues and sage greens, with dark timber banquettes and club chairs providing more-than-adequate comfort.

Sauterelle inhabits the classic world of bourgeois French cooking, and its seasonal menus are peppered with 'premier cru' oysters au naturel, ballotine of Landes foie gras with spiced pears, slow-roast tarragon chicken with cocotte potatoes and braised baby gem, and other regional veterans.
