Discreetly tucked away just behind Queen's Walk, St James's, The Restaurant at The Stafford London by Kempinski enjoys miraculously peaceful surroundings. It gets precious little in the way of passing trade, but is still cherished by legions of devoted regulars and tourists. Much of the hotel feels like a luxurious country house in the city, with classically designed drawing rooms and a genteel restaurant.

The kitchen deals in well-tried Anglo-French food in the mould of steak tartare, lobster and Champagne velouté, venison 'en croûte' and tarte Tatin.
