Rufflets Country House is one of the oldest-established and highest-quality country house hotels in Scotland. Built in 1924 as a private mansion, the imposing turreted residence is set in 10 acres of stunning gardens, and has been in the same family ownership since 1952.
Following a refit, the Terrace Restaurant (overlooking the formal terraced gardens, of course) is now done out with light faux wood panelling, high-backed chairs and striking Scottish still life prints on deep terracotta walls.
The kitchen makes use of local produce and Rufflets' home-grown vegetables for flexible, seasonal menu with a contemporary slant, lots of intricate touches and a fondness for stuffing (pork fillet boudin with cranberries and Macadamia nuts, say).
