'Simplicity isn't just our name, it's also our mission statement,' claims Lawrence Lingard, chef/proprietor of this impressive local newcomer. It's situated in the heart of historic Rotherhithe, opposite the famous Brunel Tunnel Museum, and it seems to tick all the right boxes. The interior is unfussy (dark wood tables, no curtains, a few pictures), the menu is short and seasonal, flavour comes first and prices are very fair.
Evening menus sound a few patriotically British notes - as in grilled pork chop studded with garlic and rosemary, served with mash, buttered cabbage and gravy, Gressingham duck breast with orange and apricot sauce and bubble 'n squeak, and apple crumble to finish.
