Once the Georgian country seat of Lord Mountbatten, Sopwell House is now an auspicious hotel, business venue and spa set in 12 acres of delightful gardens not far from St Albans. The restaurant (formerly called the Magnolia) has been given a serious facelift, with tasteful new décor and a new man at the stoves.

Chef James Chapman is a champion of modern British cuisine with a dash of French and makes use of judiciously sourced produce from some of England's 'food heroes'.
