'Engaging dive' or 'congenial catacomb' – call it what you will – this livewire basement is one of Leeds' best-loved haunts, especially for long lunches and early-evening warm-ups. There's always plenty of action in the bar, where plates of globally inspired tapas are the main attraction, along with sandwiches and light dishes such as confit of duck with kumquat chutney.
The maze of wood-panelled nooks and crannies also gets packed to the gunnels with crowds looking for more substantial stuff – and the kitchen delivers.
