The Chequers Inn at Aston Tirrold began life in the fifteenth century, when it was modified from a collection of separate brick cottages. A great deal has changed since then, and time-travellers from the past wouldn't recognise the place if they walked into the bar: in fact they might even think they had touched down in the wrong country.
Everything about The Chequers now proclaims 'France', from the empty wine boxes emblazoned with the names of renowned châteaux and vineyards to the litany of dishes on the blackboard menu.
