Tayvallich Inn Review

At the end of a glorious road that winds its way alongside Loch Sween, this modern family inn overlooks boats bobbing about in the natural harbour and has stunning views out towards the Sound of Jura. 'Tayvallich' translates as 'the house by the pass' and the inn was actually converted from the local bus garage in 1976.

A yachting theme dominates the traditional bar, but most people choose to settle in the more formal dining room, which is bedecked with paintings by local artists and has the best views of the village and the bay.

The kitchen makes admirable use of local seafood for a regularly changing menu that might run to seared scallops on pea purée with black pudding, steamed Loch Etive mussels, and grilled langoustines with cayenne pepper and olive oil.
