The White Swan Pub and Dining Room was once known as The Mucky Duck, a City boozer just off Fleet Street has been given a serious makeover by London gastropub empire builders Tom and Ed Martin. They have stripped the place and applied a brand new look, with a mezzanine area above the bar and a beautifully restored first-floor dining room.
In the bar there's a homespun menu of hearty dishes like braised pig's cheeks with horseradish mash, home-made veal burger with fat chips and pheasant pie, but more ambitious food is available upstairs.
Robust ideas such as roast sweetbreads with potato purée or Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with celeriac, cider and Calvados jus rub shoulders with more sophisticated offerings like roast guinea fowl breast with sweetcorn fricassee and baby leeks or roast fillet of sea trout with crab crushed potatoes, broad bean and citrus dressing.
