A bastion of the Bath restaurant scene since the late 1970s, Woods occupies the ground floor of a magnificent Georgian terrace in a quiet cul-de-sac opposite the Assembly Rooms. Appropriately it takes its name from the celebrated architect who masterminded much of the building hereabouts. Inside it is capacious and atmospheric, with wood floors, luxuriant greenery and walls bedecked with stunning horse-racing prints and memorabilia.
Market produce from Bristol, Birmingham and even Rungis in Paris shows up on the ever-changing menus, which plunder the bourgeois Anglo-French repertoire for a raft of no-frills dishes.
